How To Care For Your Embla Home Candles

If you just purchased an Embla Home candle, congratulations! What you have on you is a product made with 100% pure beeswax and imported French fragrances, poured and packaged by hand by us here in San Francisco. It’s a labor of love, so we hope you love it too! We have some tips for first-time candle users out there, so if you want to your candles to stay lit for longer, check out these six tips.

1. When you first light your Embla Home candle, keep it burning for at least two hours.
Don’t worry, you’ll still get lots and lots of burn time after! Keep your candle lit for at least two hours, or until the entire top part has pooled into liquid wax. This liquid wax top helps keep your candle’s shape as it burns and keeps it burning for longer.

2. Trim your wick before each lighting.
Not too much, around 1/8 of an inch will do. This will help your Embla Home candle give you a clean, even burn each time. Use a dedicated wick trimmer to avoid fraying your wick. We have on in Silver and in Rose Gold, so choose one that best fits your personality!

3. Burn your candles in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid burning too many candles in a small space where airflow can be limited. Choose a candle size or display arrangement that best fits the room you’ll be placing it in. Larger, more open spaces like your living room or dining room can handle an Argyle Candle, but for a smaller bathroom, a Diamond Candle or a few Hexagon Candles may suffice.

4. Don’t burn your candles under curtains.
Avoid placing your candle near open windows, air vents, or ceiling fans. While you want to make sure your space is well-ventilated, don’t keep your candle too near a source of ventilation. Your candle may burn too quickly, flare up, or light a fire accidentally, and we want to avoid that.

5. Keep your Embla Home candles on flat, stable surfaces.
This will prevent damage to your candle and table, and avoid any unfortunate fire-related accidents. Ideally, make sure this surface is heat-resistant as well. If you’re not sure about your surface, place your candle in a candle holder of your choice.

6. Use a snuffer to extinguish your candle.
Save the blowing for the birthday candles. Water won’t do you any good either. Avoid wax splatter and use a snuffer. Not only is it super pretty to look at, but you’ll feel like a cool, sophisticated grown-up whenever you use it.
